On this historic day, 26 April 2026, in Harrismith, South Africa, we bear witness to a moment that resonates far beyond ceremony, the coronation of King Bongani Ramontja.

It is a moment that calls to mind the enduring legacy of King Shaka, not merely in stature, but in spirit: a spirit defined by courage, vision, and an unyielding commitment to the dignity and unity of African people.
Like King Shaka, whose leadership transformed fragmented communities into a formidable and unified nation, King Bongani Ramontja steps forward with a philosophy rooted in identity and belonging:
“We are the Soil of Africa.”
It is not just a poetic expression; it is a call to consciousness. It reminds us that we are bound to this land not only by geography, but by history, sacrifice, and shared destiny.
Where King Shaka forged strength through unity and disciplined purpose, King Bongani seeks to rebuild through inclusion, justice, and moral clarity.
At the heart of his vision lies a resolute commitment to non-racialism, a principle essential to the healing and progress of South Africa. In a nation shaped by deep divisions, his stance reflects both courage and foresight: that true nationhood cannot be built on exclusion, but on equal dignity and shared opportunity.
This aligns with a meritocratic approach to governance, where leadership is earned through capability, integrity, and service, rather than entitlement or patronage.
Equally profound is his advocacy for the restoration of Kingdoms, not as relics of the past, but as living institutions of cultural identity, governance, and community cohesion.
In this, we again see an echo of King Shaka’s legacy, recognising that strong, rooted leadership at every level is essential for a thriving nation.

As Chairman of the Pan-African Peace Commission, I extend our deepest respect and solidarity to His Majesty King Bongani Ramontja. His fearless and courageous stand against injustice and corruption reflects the very ideals we strive to uphold across the continent.
In him, we see not only a custodian of tradition but a visionary leader prepared to confront the challenges of our time with integrity and resolve.
We look forward to the journey that has begun today, a journey toward freedom, justice, and renewal.
The Pan-African Peace Commission is honoured to walk alongside His Majesty in this noble pursuit, as together we work to restore the promise of a free and just South Africa and contribute to the broader awakening of the African continent.
May his reign be marked by wisdom, unity, and the enduring strength of a people who know, without doubt, that they are, and always will be, the Soil of Africa.
